Murder in the
Goblins' Playground
by Ralph E. Vaughan

I don't think authors should underestimate the importance of a title when they are writing a book. There are so many e-books to choose from now that I tend to skim past a quite a few, as their titles are similar to many others I have read.
When I came across Murder in the Goblins' Playground, my interest was immediately piqued. First of all, while in the past I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy, I am mostly reading mysteries these days. I seem to be drawn to English mysteries, possibly because the methods of their detectives are so different than the ones in America. They don't even have guns! It is amazing to me how the investigation unfolds without a shot being fired.
The words Goblins' Playground also drew me in because it touched the part of me that still likes fantasies. What in the world is a Goblins' Playground? Without giving too much away, I learned the Goblins' Playground was a set of standing stones in the center of a deep dark woods. It was believed by the villagers to be a place of ancient evil and the stones were goblins who were frozen in place by the Lord of the Forest. Most villagers avoided the woods and old tales were passed down through generations. More than a few believed the goblins were re-awakening.
This all began when one man turns up dead in the local pub. The Detective Chief Inspector and his sergeant must investigate in a town where nothing is what it seems and no one wants to talk about it. The personalities of the two peace officers are of particular interest since DCI Ravyn seems to have some difficulty keeping sergeants who have been assigned to him. Author Ralph E Vaughan captures the unique qualities of each character, such as the three women whom the villagers label the “Weird Sisters”, and brings each one to life.
But don't take my word for it, take the story for a spin. You can read it for free with Kindle Unlimited. Then you will be enticed to read the next two books in the series, also with a paranormal twist.
