GRANNYSAGE AT THE CROSSROADS

Grannysage's almanac

Many years ago, 2008 in fact, I was between jobs and decided to go back to writing. I hadn't written a thing for years. I heard that people make money writing blogs so I started one called Granny Sage's Almanac. I had a few other blogs on different topics.

An almanac is usually a text listing a set of events forthcoming in the next year, particularly astronomy and divination. Almanacs are found in many cultures with the earliest believed to be the Babylonian Almanac dating back to the middle of the second millennium BC. Most of us have seen the modern Farmer's Almanac which give farmers advice on time to plant different crops. Modern almanacs also include discussions on topical subjects. This is what I intended for my almanac. (Wikipedia)

Then I discovered Squidoo, a platform that actually paid you to write. I was making no money on my blogs, but did make a few dollars each month on Squidoo. I decided to move all my blogs to Squidoo, except for the Almanac, which was a general “what I am thinking now” kind of page. Later, the Writing Platform That Shall Not Be Named Again, sold themselves right under us, the writers who had invested much time and creativity into our work.

Some writers went to Hubpages. I decided to start my own website and move my articles there. And so Crossroads was born.

I was also writing for a site called Bubblews which called for shorter articles. I made a little money there, but after awhile they discovered they couldn't generate enough income from ads to pay us. So they closed their doors too. I was stuck with quite a few small articles that I didn't know what to do with. Crossroads was still in its infant stage and I haven't even moved many of my bigger articles over here yet.

I didn't want to go back to blogs as I don't like how they keep scrolling the older stuff downward until you can't find them. I deleted the Almanac and stored the stories on my hard drive. Well, I've been talking on Facebook about an article I wrote about my late husband called “Zen and the Art of Kitty Litter Raking.” Since my husband died suddenly in February 2017, I haven't felt motivated to do much of anything. Now I feel I am emotionally ready to pull out these articles and start a new almanac here on Crossroads.

Naturally I plan to start with the article on zen and kitty litter.
